How to Play Wordle

Wordle gives you six tries to guess a hidden five-letter word, using colour clues to close in on the answer.

The rules

• Guess a valid five-letter word.
• Green: correct letter in the correct position.
• Yellow: correct letter, wrong position.
• Grey: the letter isn't in the word.
• You get six guesses, and there's a new word every day.

Strategy

1. Open with a word rich in vowels and common consonants.
2. Use a second guess that tests new letters rather than repeating known ones.
3. Watch for repeated letters — many tricky answers reuse a letter.
